An Appreciated Paper.
A letter from Pte. A.S. Nicolls, now in France, to this paper, mentions “Snowy” Johnson, Dave Mackay, Frank McDougall, Con Jordan, and Geo. Moody, and adds : “There are a good few of us Cairns boys in this Battalion and generally we all get together and have a gathering of the clans. We are all waiting anxiously for the time when bully and biscuits will be a thing of the past. We often get a copy of the “Herald” across here, and I can assure you there is a great demand for it among the Northern boys.”^{vviii Northern Herald, 3 August 1917, p. 5. Sadly, at least three of the men did not return to Cairns having died in France. They were John Conway (Con) Jordan, George (Geo.) Moody and John Francis (Frank) McDougall.iii}

KILLED IN ACTION.
A telegram has been received by Mrs. M. Schaffert advising that Pte. J. C. Jordan was killed in action in France on 5^th April. Pte. Jordan was a relation of Mr. Tom Searle who until recently managed the local branch of the Government Savings Bank. Pte. Jordan enlisted about 2 ½ years ago, when he was 18 years of age. Prior to enlisting he was employed as a clerk in the Queensland National Bank Ltd., Cairns.^{iix Cairns Post, 3 May 1918, p. 4.x}
